Meracu is born from the curious and restless hands of Shanti Ganesha, an Italo-Indian artist who grew up between the two countries. She graduating at the art school in Venice. From that moment on, she cultivates leather as a passion and hobby, teaching herself and always carrying her tools in her backpack during her travels around the world. She has lived in New Zealand, Australia, England, India, and visited many more countries before returning to Italy during the pandemic. It is then that she decides to turn her passion for leather into a concrete profession. In 2022, she opens her small workshop with a laboratory in Venice, where she gives free rein to her creativity.
This time it won't be a journey to distant lands but a more static journey.

Our leather is ethically sourced and naturally tanned using non-harmful natural tannins. We partner with tanneries certified by the 'Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale,' ensuring high-quality, responsibly produced materials. The consortium mandates the recovery, reuse, and recycling of tanning process elements, minimizing environmental impact.
Our leather is obtained through a recycling system that repurposes by-products from meat factories. This allows us to give the skins a new and durable purpose without harming cows solely for their hides.
To combat deforestation primarily caused by dairy and meat factories, we actively participate in social responsibility and the circular economy. We contribute to tree planting and reforestation projects, supporting initiatives worldwide through partnerships with organizations like Gone West. These efforts provide employment to local communities.
We also prioritize minimizing our environmental impact through sustainable packaging practices. All our packaging is either biodegradable or recycled. We use cotton bags and paper to protect our leather, ensuring we avoid contributing to plastic waste.
